1971 Cannonero II Tac Pin

This pin honors Canonero II, winner of the 1971 Kentucky Derby with jockey Gustavo Avila up. Canonero II was bred fairly traditionally by Edward B. In the Kentucky Derby, Canonero II raced hard on the outside in the final stretch to win over Jim French by 3.75 lengths. He would go on to win the Preakness by a similar margin, but lost the Belmont due to a hoof injury.
