Product Description

This pin honors Stone Street (also seen in racing literature as Stonestreet), winner of the 1908 Kentucky Derby with jockey Arthur Pickins up. The track was wet and muddy for the second year in a row, causing most of the horses except for Stone Street to become temporarily stuck at the starting gate. Even with the head start, the mud caused Stone Street to run the slowest race recorded at the mile and a quarter distance, as of 2009, at 2:15.05. Stone Street was bred by James Ben Ali Haggin, who bred 1886 winner Ben Ali, owned by C. E. and J. W. Hamilton and trained by J.W. Hall.
