Product Description

This pin honors Donau, winner of the 1910 Kentucky Derby with jockey Frederick Herbert up. Donau won by a nose over his race-rival Joe Morris; but both winner and runner-up won with a dramatic lead over the other horses. Donau was bred and owned at the Brookdale Farm in Lexington, Kentucky by Coronel Milton Young, and became known as an unruly and tempestuous horse. Trainers James Blute and Gerorge Ham managed to get him into racing condition, but Donau never grew out of his fiery temper. He was eventually retired from horse racing because of his behavior.
