Product Description
This pin honors Flying Ebony, winner of the first nationally broadcast Kentucky Derby on the radio in 1925. Flying Ebony raced well on an incredibly muddy racetrack, managing to win by one and a half lengths with 1923 Derby-winning jockey Earl Sande up. He was bred by John E. Madden who bred four previous Derby winners at his stud farm Hamburg Place in Lexington, Kentucky: 1915 winner Old Rosebud, 1919 winner Sir Barton, 1920 winner Paul Jones and 1923 winner Zev. Flying Ebony was owned by Gifford A. Cochran and trained by William B. Duke. His gold Derby cup is currently on display at the Kentucky Derby Museum.
