This pin honors Cavalcade, who won the 1934 Kentucky Derby by powering through the last stretch to win over discovery. In the Derby, he was ridden by jockey Mack Garner. Cavalcade had been bred by F. Wallis Armstrong and was later sold to Isabel Dodge Sloane of Brookmeade Stables in Virginia. He was trained by Robert Augustus Smith. After his Derby win, he retired as a stud back to Virginia. In 1993, Cavalcade was admitted to the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame.
