Product Description

This pin honors Bold Venture, winner of the 1936 Kentucky Derby with jockey Ira Hanford up. During the Derby, Bold Venture managed to hold off Brevity, the favorite from Elmendorf Farms, despite having been knocked to his knees out of the starting gate. Bold Venture later went on to win the Preakness. He was bred and owned by Morton L. Schwartz at King Ranch in Texas, the stud farm that also produced the 1946 Triple Crown winner Assault. His trainer was Max Hirsch. Bold Venture retired after a successful racing career to a successful stud career, siring both 1946 Triple Crown Winner Assault and 1950 Kentucky Derby winner Middleground.
