Product Description

This pin honors Pensive, winner of the 1944 Kentucky Derby by 4.5 lengths by wearing out Broadcloth and Stir Up from the inside to pass with jockey Conn McCreary up. Pensive would go on to win the Preakness the next week, but was out-raced for the Belmont by Bounding Home by only slightly more than a nose. He was bred and owned by Warren Wright, owner of the legendary Calumet Farm near Lexington, Kentucky, who also produced 7 other Derby winners and 3 Triple Crown winners. He was trained by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Ben A. Jones. Pensive retired back to Calumet to sire 1949 Kentucky Derby winner Ponder.
