Product Description

This pin honors Count Fleet, winner of the 1943 Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown with jockey John Longden up. He finished the Derby 3 lengths over Gold Shoulder despite an injury sustained in a stakes race earlier that year, and would go on to with the Preakness by 8 lengths and the Belmont by an incredible 25 lengths to become the 6th Triple Crown winner in history. His 25 length win at the Preakness would remain the record until Secretariat raced the Belmont in 1973. Count Fleet was bred and owned by Mrs. John D. Hertz, of Hertz Rental Cars fame, at the Stoner Creek Stud Farm in Paris Kentucky. He was trained by Don Cameron. Count Fleet would retire back to his home at Stoner Creek and sire 1951 Derby winner Count Turf. He has received many honors, including a #5 ranking in The Blood-Horse magazine’s Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century and a 1961 induction into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame.
