1950 Middleground Tac Pin
This pin honors Middleground, winner of the 1950 Kentucky Derby with jockey William Boland up. Middleground quickly passed rival Hill Prince in the first turn to finish at 1.25 lengths ahead. He would go on to beat Hill Prince again at the Belmont by 5 lengths. In 1951, Middleground won Horse of the year, despite the loss of the Triple Crown. He was bred and owned by Kind Ranch in Kingsville, Texas—a farm that had produced 1946 Triple Crown winner Assault—and trained by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Max Hirsch.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
