1963 Chautegay Tac Pin
This pin honors Chautegay, winner of the 1963 Kentucky Derby with jockey Braulio Baeza up. There was a lot of hype leading up to the Derby that year because of Chautegay’s undefeated record; and he did not disappoint. Chautegay won by just more than a length over Never Bend, another horse with an undefeated record. While Never Bend would hold onto the Preakness, Chautegay would catch the Belmont. He was bred and owned by John W. Galbreath at the Darby Dan Farm near Lexington, Kentucky and was trained by James P. Conway. His sire was 1956 Derby winner Swaps. Chautegay retired after a successful career as a stud in Japan.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
