1968 Forward Pass Tac Pin
This pin honors Forward Pass, winner of the often-contested 1968 Kentucky Derby with 1958 Derby winning jockey Ismael Valenzuela up. Although at first coming in 2nd to Dancer’s Image, Forward Pass was declared the winner of the race after Dancer’s Image was disqualified for using a pain killer before the race. Churchill Downs later allowed use of that particular pain killer, but never overturned the decision. The controversy that surrounded Forward Pass’ win slowly faded away after he won the Preakness and came in second at the Belmont. Forward Pass was bred and owned by Warren Wright at the legendary Calumet Farms near Lexington, Kentucky and trained by 1966 Derby winning trainer Henry Forrest.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
