1972 Riva Ridge Tac Pin
This pin honors Riva Ridge, winner of the 1972 Kentucky Derby with U.S. Racing Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte up and stable mate and companion to 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat. Despite a bad bump out of the starting gate, Riva Ridge managed to pass Hold Your Peace to win over No Le Hace. He was bred and owned at the Meadow Stables near Richmond Virginia by Christopher Chenery and trained by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Lucien Laurin. After retiring, he stood as a stud at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. He ranks #57 in The Blood-Horse magazine’s Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century and was inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1971.
