1973 Secretariat Tac Pin
This pin honors Secretariat, legendary race horse and winner of the 1973 Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown. Bred and owned by Penny Chenery of the Meadow Stables near Richmond, VA, trained by French-Canadian Lucien Laurin and jockeyed by Ron Turcotte, Secretariat has many nicknames, among them Big Red and Superhorse. His nicknames were well-earned: Secretariat set racing records that still stand, the most notable being his astonishing 31 length win over Sham at the 1973 Preakness Stakes. Winner of a number of awards, including Horse of the Year (1972, 1973), No. 2 ranking in The Blood-Horse Magazines Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century and an induction into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1974, Secretariat remains one of the most beloved horses in history.
