1980 Genuine Risk Tac Pin
This pin honors Genuine Risk, winner of the 1980 Kentucky Derby with jockey Jacinto Vasquez up. She is especially distinguished for being one of only three fillies to win the Kentucky Derby; the most recent before Genuine Risk was Regret in 1915. Genuine Risk held back in the beginning of the Derby, only to steadily gain ground in a drive to win. She would go on to place second in both the Preakness and the Belmont, sadly falling just short of a Triple Crown win. She retired to Newstead Farm in Virginia where she was owned by Mrs. Diana M. Firestone. She was bred by Mrs. Sally Humphrey and trained by LeRoy Jolley. Genuine Risk is ranked #91 in The Blood-Horse Magazine’s Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century and was inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1986.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
Pin measures 0.75 X 1”.
