1984 Swale Tac Pin
This pin honors Swale, winner of the 1984 Kentucky Derby with jockey Laffit Pincay, Jr. up. There were high expectations for Swale in the Triple Crown races because his sire, Seattle Slew, had won the Triple Crown in 1977. In the Derby, Swale overtook Althea in the backstretch and managed to hold him off for a first place finish. He disappointed in the Preakness, but rallied for the Belmont and won by several lengths. Swale was bred and owned at Claiborne Farms in Paris, KY by Arthur B. Hancock and trained by Woodford (Woody) C. Stephens.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
Pin measures 0.75 X 1”.
