1987 Alysheba Tac Pin
This pin honors Alysheba, winner of the 1987 Kentucky Derby with jockey Chris McCarron up. Alysheba steadily advanced up the field to win, even after tripping over Bet Twice halfway through. He would go on to win the Preakness but would lose badly in the Belmont. Later that year, he would also be closely outrun by 1986 Derby winner Ferdinand in the Breeder’s Cup. At the end of his career he retired to a Kentucky stud farm and then to Saudi Arabia. He was bred by Preston W. Madden of Hamburg Place Farm in Lexington, KY, owned by Dorothy and Pamela Scharbauer and trainer Jack Charles van Berg. He is ranked #42 in The Blood-Horse Magazine’s Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century and was inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1993.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
