1991 Strike The Gold Tac Pin
This pin honors Strike the Gold, winner of the 1991 Kentucky Derby with jockey Chris Antley up. He passed his slow-moving competitors in the far turn and rushed to the finish to win over his pursuer Best Pal. Strike the Gold saw the Derby as the pinnacle of his career; he would lose the other two Triple Crown races and any successive ones. He retired in 1993 to a stud farm in Midway, Kentucky. Strike the Gold was bred out of 1977 Derby-placer Alydar at Calumet Stud Farm by a cooperative team made up of Giles Brophy, William J. Condren and Joseph M. Cornacchia. He was trained by Nicolas Zito.
A Kentucky Derby Museum Exclusive.
