2002 War Emblem Tac Pin
This pin honors War Emblem, winner of the 2002 Kentucky Derby with jockey Victor Espinoza up. War Emblem took an early lead in the race, and then pulled away in the final furlong to ensure his closest competitor, Proud Citizen, was runner-up. Although War Emblem would go on to win the Preakness, he would not win the Belmont; therefore losing the opportunity to be the next Triple Crown winner. He retired to stud in Japan. War Emblem was bred by Charles Nucklos, Jr. & Sons, owned by Russel L. Reineman and trained by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Bob Baffert.
