2003 Funny Cide Tac Pin
This pin honors Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby with jockey Jose Santo up. Even after a big bump from Offlee Wild out of the gate, Funny Cide took a strong position to eventually beat Empire Maker by 1 ¾ lengths. Funny Cide went on to with the Preakness by an incredible 9 ¾ lengths and was expected to win the Belmont as well; but he was not able to hang onto that race, considered the most difficult of the Triple Crown races. Despite his loss of the Triple Crown, Funny Cide continued to have a very successful career in racing until he retired recently to the Kentucky Horse Park. He was bred by WinStar Farms in Versailles, Kentucky and owned and trained by Barclay Tagg at Sackatoga Stable in upstate New York.
