2009 Mine That Bird Tac Pin
This pin honors Mine That Bird, winner of the 2009 Kentucky Derby with Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel up. Mine That Bird’s Derby is a story of a comeback: he began the race almost 9 lengths back from the field, but rallied incredibly to win by 6 lengths. Unfortunately, Mine That Bird was unable to hold on in either the Preakness or the Belmont. He was bred in New Mexico at Lamantia, Blackburn and Needham (better known as Betz Thoroughbreds), owned by Double Eagle Ranch and Bueno Suerte Equine and trained by Bennie “Chip” Woolley, Jr. In 2010, be began training with Derby veteran and U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
